Gaza (QNN)- An Israeli airstrike targeting a police center in Gaza City on Wednesday killed at least ten Palestinians, including police officers and personnel, with some victims torn to pieces. The attack came as Israel continues to target the Palestinian police force across the war-ravaged enclave to create chaos and undermine public security.
The Palestinian Interior Ministry confirmed the Israeli attack targeting a police center in central Gaza City, located in a crowded part of the city during a busy time, killing about ten, including eight police officers and personnel.
Faten Al-Sahhar, head of Gaza’s Women’s Police Department, was also killed in the attack.
The victims identified so far include:
• Brigadier General Ayman Mahmoud Jundiya, 47, acting director of Gaza Governorate Police
• Colonel Osama Hashem Al-Hijjin, 43, director of operations for Gaza Governorate Police
• Colonel Fatena Abdel Jabbar Al-Sahhar, 42, director of the Women’s Police Department in Gaza Governorate
• Colonel Ibrahim Abdel Rahman Tamraz, 47
• Colonel Alaa Ali Alyan, 47
• Lieutenant Colonel Hazem Jabr Khalaf, 52
• Major Othman Shehata Abu Samaan, 42
Second Lieutenant Samaher Misbah Hamada, 39
Among those killed was a former Palestinian detainee in Israeli prisons.
The attack happened near the municipality and a city park which was filled with people, including children. A 13-year-old girl who was spending time with her family was killed in the strike.
A few hours ago, another attack targeted a motorcycle in central Gaza’s Nuseirat refugee camp. One person was reported killed in that attack.
The Ministry of Interior said that Israel targeted them while they were “performing their duties monitoring markets and maintaining security and public order.”
The Ministry also noted that the repeated Israeli attacks targeting police facilities and striking police officers and personnel “constitute a war crime and a blatant violation of international humanitarian law, as police facilities are civilian protection institutions safeguarded under international law and must not be targeted.”
There has been a spike in Israeli attacks targeting police in the war-torn Strip despite the ceasefire. Over 60 members of the Palestinian police in Gaza have been killed in Israeli attacks since the agreement took effect on October 10, 2025.
Palestinians and resistance groups say Israeli attacks on police are a “continuation of the crimes and terrorism against our people to perpetuate the state of lawlessness, sow chaos, and hinder any efforts to recover and restore normalcy to Gaza.”
Following the attack, the Israeli military claimed, without providing evidence as always, that it targeted Hamas leaders.
Israel’s Ongoing Violations: What We Know
Hamas, however, slammed the attack. In a statement, the movement said the “horrific massacre carried out by the Israeli occupation forces.. constitutes a new Israeli war crime and demonstrates the Netanyahu government’s continued determination to evade its obligations and effectively refuse to implement the ceasefire agreement and advance its remaining phases.”
Hamas also confirmed that the Israeli claims that the attack targeted resistance leaders are “entirely baseless”.
“These false allegations are being used to justify its aggression and conceal its deliberate targeting of the civilian police force and unarmed civilians in the Gaza Strip.”
The timing of the massacre, it added, which “came following recent meetings and contacts with mediators and guarantors of the agreement, and.. efforts to advance implementation of the agreement and its roadmap, confirms that the Netanyahu government is deliberately undermining these efforts and dangerously pushing toward a renewed war against the Palestinian people in Gaza, rather than honoring its commitments under the agreement.”
On Tuesday, An Israeli drone attack on a cafe in the port area west of Gaza City killed at least seven, including a child, and left one body so mutilated that health workers could not identify the victim, according to Palestinian Health officials.
Most of the injured, including those in critical condition, were transferred to al-Shifa Hospital, which reported that it had received six bodies and 13 wounded, one of whom succumbed to their injuries later in the evening.
The hospital said one victim appeared to have taken a direct missile hit, with the body shredded beyond recognition.
Health officials said the intensity of the strike pushed a number of the injured and dead into the sea, meaning the real number of casualties may be higher.
Mohammed Alghoul, an eyewitness to the event, told AFP that “Israeli warplanes fired two missiles at the ‘Sweet and Bitter’ cafe on the fishermen’s port west of Gaza City”.
Hamas condemned Tuesday’s Israeli attack on the crowded café, calling it a “blatant disregard for calls by mediators and guarantor states for a ceasefire.”
Hamas said in a statement that the strike, which they described as a "massacre", demonstrates Israel's “disregard” for Trump’s calls to maintain the “ceasefire” deal, calling on mediators to pressure Israel “to commit to the ceasefire deal” and the peace roadmap already agreed upon.
The Director-General of Gaza’s Government Media Office, Ismail Al-Thawabta, said Israel continues to wage its “bloody war” and commit grave violations against civilians in the Gaza Strip, stressing that Tuesday’s “heinous massacre” constitutes clear evidence of Israel’s intent to violate the ceasefire agreement and continue its genocidal campaign.
In a post on Telegram, the Israeli military claimed that they carried out a “precise aerial strike” against “several Hamas commanders” in the Shati area, west of Gaza City, adding that “steps were taken to mitigate harm to civilians”.
They did not comment on the child who was killed, or provide evidence to substantiate their allegations against those targeted.
The timing makes the claim more striking still. For the past two days, US officials have publicly pressed Israel to justify its strikes by pointing to specific, imminent threats and to minimize the killing of Palestinians in Gaza.
US envoy Jared Kushner said only this week that Washington would not restrict Israel's right to defend itself against what it deems imminent threats. Israel appears to have simply adopted that language, labeling a strike on a seaside café full of civilians as the elimination of a threat, in what looks like an attempt to fit its continued killing into the formula its American backers have handed it.
The result is a killing that lays bare the hollowness of both the ceasefire and the US posture. Only hours after Kushner emerged from meetings with Netanyahu to signal American support for Israel to continue the attacks in Gaza, Israel had bombed a civilian cafe by the sea and reached for the very "imminent threat" justification Washington provided.
On Wednesday, Hazem Qassem, a Hamas spokesperson, confirmed to Al-Araby TV that the Hamas members who were targeted at the port were unarmed and were at a meeting to discuss the disarmament of the movement as part of the Trump’s deal.
Israel’s Bank of Targets
Over 270 Palestinian children have been killed in Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip since the start of the so-called US-backed ceasefire, as Israel continues to heavily bombard the enclave and deliberately target children.
According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, 272 children were killed in Israeli attacks across the Gaza Strip as of August 16, while another 1,174 were injured. Among the victims were also 135 women, 39 elders and 819 men.
On Tuesday, a child was among those killed in the Israeli attack. Another child was also killed in Wednesday's attack.
Since the ceasefire took effect in October 2025, Israeli forces have killed 1,266 Palestinians in Gaza. Children account for 21.5 percent of the total death toll.
Apartment buildings, markets, vehicles, and cafés have continued to come under attack. In some cases, families received displacement orders only minutes before their homes were bombed, while many others received no warning at all.
United Nations human rights chief Volker Turk condemned Israel’s attacks in the Gaza Strip, saying that “the unrelenting pattern of killings” reflects Israel’s “sweeping impunity“.
Palestinians are still being killed and injured in what is left of their homes, shelters and tents of displaced families, on the streets, in vehicles, at a medical facility and a classroom,” Turk said.
“We mourn as Gaza reaches yet another tragic milestone … Thousands more people who were told the worst was over are still burying their loved ones,” said Fikr Shalltoot, Gaza director at Medical Aid for Palestinians.
Israeli forces continue to commit genocide against Palestinians by deliberately targeting children in the Gaza Strip, an independent United Nations Commission of Inquiry has found.
In a report published in June, an independent United Nations Commission of Inquiry — which last year concluded Israel had committed genocide in Gaza — found that Israeli forces continue to commit genocide against Palestinians by deliberately targeting children in the Gaza Strip.
It said that Israeli assaults have continued causing “unprecedented death, injury and trauma” to Palestinian children.
In August, the United Nations children’s agency said at least 300 children have been killed in Gaza in the roughly 300 days since a so-called “ceasefire” was announced on October 10, 2025 – an average of one child a day.
Hundreds more have been wounded, many severely, UNICEF said in a statement. “A ceasefire that leaves an average of one child dead each and every day is failing children,” said Edouard Beigbeder, UNICEF regional director for the Middle East and North Africa.
“Children in Gaza are still waiting for the end to the violence they were promised.”
In one strike in western Gaza City on August 2, residents recovered the remains of an unborn baby from the rubble after the attack killed a pregnant woman, her husband and their five-year-old son.
More than 64,000 children were killed or injured in Gaza between Oct. 7, 2023 and Oct. 7, 2025, according to the UN.
Doctors Without Borders, known as MSF, said it has been “over 1,000 days since Israel's genocide in Gaza began, and the collective punishment of Palestinians continues to this day. Amidst a so-called ceasefire, the world has normalised seeing Palestinians being maimed and killed daily in their tents, in hospitals, and on the street.”
It added, “This is not a ceasefire.”
